A suspected drunk driver has been charged with DUI and vehicular manslaughter after striking a man outside of his car on the 101 Freeway early Sunday, July 28th. The victim has been identified as Alfredo Alvara, 24 of Chino.
The fatal crash is still under investigation, but it appears as though Alvara was out of his Toyota Scion, pushing his vehicle in the slow lane after his car was disabled after being rear-ended in a separate incident.
The alleged drunk driver, Robert Graves, 30 of Reseda, driving a Toyota 4Runner seems to have struck Alvara in the slow lane, pinning Alvara between the Scion and SUV. Alvara was pronounced dead at the scene. Two passengers in the Scion, Erica Monge, 30 of San Bernardino and Teresa Oporto, 23 of Fontana, were taken to a local hospital in critical condition.
Authorities have taken the time to remind motorists to never stop on the freeway and always attempt to get to at least the shoulder before exiting your vehicle in an emergency.
