Car Accident in La Quinta: Three Victims Identified

A car accident in La Quinta involving multiple vehicles, including a pickup truck and two motorcycles, and a pedestrian left three people fatal.

Reportedly, deputies from the Riverside Sheriff’s Thermal Station arrived at the crash site near Highway 111 and Simon Drive. Then, they found a white Chevrolet pickup truck and two motorcycles on Highway 111, west of Simon Drive, alongside four seriously injured people.

Subsequently, CalFire and AMR teams conducted life-saving efforts. Further, the La Quinta Traffic Collision Reconstruction Team from the Thermal Sheriff’s Station directed the investigation.

Early investigations by the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office revealed an eastbound motorcycle on Highway 111 collided with a pedestrian. Accordingly, this collision ejected the motorcyclist into oncoming lanes.

However, as bystanders rushed to assist, a westbound Chevrolet pickup hit the motorcycle, veering off into the median and striking two individuals helping the motorcyclist.

Unfortunately, this incident resulted in the immediate deaths of the motorcyclist, the pedestrian, and one of the good Samaritans. Authorities identified the victims as Maria Reyes, 33, from La Quinta; Katherine Vogts, 47, from Palm Desert; and Brandt Celli, 26, from Indio.

Katherine “Katie” Vogts, providing CPR at the time, was killed attempting to save others, as confirmed by her family and a supporting GoFundMe page.

Moreover, another victim with severe injuries was quickly taken to a hospital. Meanwhile, the Chevrolet driver cooperated with the investigation. The driver showed no signs of drugs or alcohol involvement.

At present, the investigation is still ongoing. Deputy K. Moore of the Thermal Sheriff’s Station’s La Quinta Traffic Team urges anyone with relevant information to contact (760) 863-8990 or call anonymously at (760) 341-STOP (7867).
