A good Samaritan was killed crossing Interstate 280 in an attempt to help the victims of a car crash in Woodside early Sunday, July 21st. The man has since been identified as 32-year-old Kirk Peterson of Redwood City.

The original crash occurred when a black Honda, driven by a man allegedly under the influence, hit the back of a Toyota SUV. The driver of the Toyota SUV lost control of the vehicle and hit the center divider. Petersen saw the crash, pulled over, and attempted to cross the freeway to help. Tragically, he was killed after being hit by an Infiniti SUV while crossing.

The driver who caused the original crash was identified as Charles Miranda, 25 of Vallejo. Miranda was arrested under suspicion of driving under the influence causing bodily injury. The incident is still under investigation and the CHP is seeking witnesses.
