Putting the gearshift into park should be an easy task, but may be more difficult for Jeep, Chrysler, and Dodge cars. NHTSA is investigating reports of the gearshift in these vehicles springing back into neutral when it is placed in park.

Thousands of drivers of Fiat Chrysler vehicles have had trouble navigating their vehicle into ‘park’ using equipped Monostable electronic gearshifts. At least 121 people have exited their still running, in-gear vehicles, assuming the vehicle was turned off or in ‘park’, causing crashes and injuries. The National Highway Transportation Safety Administration (NHTSA) is investigating 856,000 2014-2015 Jeep Grand Cherokees, 2012-2014 Dodge Chargers, and 2012-2014 Chrysler 300 cars with 3.6 liter engines after reports of the gearshift springing back into neutral after the gear is placed in park.

Hundreds of complaints have been filed with Fiat Chrysler and NHTSA. NHTSA is conducting an engineering analysis on the affected vehicles to determine how often the shifting problem occurs, and just how dangerous it is. Fiat Chrysler is cooperating with investigators. The company also stated that the electronic gearshifts in question are not in the current production line. If you own a 2014-2015 Jeep Grand Cherokees, 2012-2014 Dodge Chargers, or a 2012-2014 Chrysler 300 with 3.6 liter engine, be cautious of this issue and protect yourself from being harmed or injured due to the gearshift.
