A tour bus from Los Angeles drifted off Interstate 5 and overturned, killing one passenger and injuring 30 more on Sunday, November 23rd. The crash occurred around 7:30 a.m. near Shasta Lake. The bus was traveling from Los Angeles to Pasco, Washington.

The tour bus was operated by Yellow Arrow LLC of Othello, Washington. The bus driver, identified as Jose Victor Garcilazo Palencia, 67, of Los Angeles, may have been fatigued. 30 minutes prior to the rollover crash, the tour bus was involved in another accident. According to authorities, the same bus struck a Red Bluff Denny’s overhang earlier in the morning.

The deceased bus passenger has only been identified as a 33-year-old man from Parlier. Conflicting reports state that two or three passengers were airlifted to Mercy Medical Center in Mount Shasta and were listed in critical condition and two or three other passengers were listed in serious condition at Mercy Medical Center in Redding. 30 of the estimated 33 passengers on the bus were taken to either Mercy Medical Center or Shasta Regional Hospital in Redding.

Authorities continue to investigate the crash.
