A voluntary recall was announced by The Republic of Tea for organic turmeric ginger green tea. One of its suppliers notified the company that there was a possibility that one of the lots of organic ginger may have been contaminated with salmonella. The recall was announced out of an abundance of caution and no one has reported any illnesses associated with salmonella.
The salmonella bacteria is known to cause fever, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal pain in healthy individuals. It is also known to cause serious health problems with children, elders, and people with weakened immune systems. None of the testing performed by investigators and The Republic of Tea showed any signs of salmonella contamination, but due to the circumstances, the company pressed forward with a recall.
