Seven people were injured when a big rig rear-ended numerous vehicles on the westbound Interstate 10 in West Covina in the early morning of Monday, September 21st. The driver of the big rig, identified as Salvador Vidales, 54, of Baldwin Park, was arrested for misdemeanor suspicion of driving under the influence.

The crash occurred east of Holt Avenue on the 10 West around 5:45 a.m. Vidales failed to stop his truck when approaching traffic, slamming into several vehicles, which were pushed into even more vehicles. In all, nine vehicles were involved in the crash. Seven people were injured with six of them being taken to local hospitals. Injuries ranged from minor to moderate.

The crash closed four lanes of the 10 West for several hours Monday morning for cleanup and investigation. Vidales was among the victims taken to the hospital, at which time he was arrested.
