A commuter bus in Redondo Beach hit two pedestrians, killing one and injuring the other near the busy Riviera Village area on the early evening of Wednesday, February 4th. Witnesses described both victims as elderly. The crash occurred around 6:15 p.m. at the intersection of Avenue I and Catalina Avenue.

According to authorities, the victims were walking north on Catalina Avenue and were in the crosswalk when they were struck by the bus. The bus was in the process of making a left turn from the four-way stop on southbound Catalina on to eastbound Avenue I. After the collision, both victims were trapped beneath the bus. The female victim was rescued from beneath the bus and transported to a local hospital with serious injuries. The male victim was pronounced dead at the scene. A tow truck was utilized to recovery his body.

Authorities are continuing to investigate the crash. They do not believe that drugs or alcohol were a factor in the crash. The bus driver has been sequestered until the investigation is completed.
