A man reportedly jumped or fell from his car on the eastbound 101 Freeway on the afternoon of Monday, January 14th, closing three lanes of the freeway for about three hours.

According to witnesses, around 1:13 PM on the 101 just west of Mureau Road the 33-year-old Ventura man exited a Ford F150 pickup, landing in the center divider. He then got up and ran across the freeway before being struck by a big rig in the number 4 lane. The man was airlifted to UCLA Medical Center.

Authorities are unsure what caused the incident and are investigating potential drug use or a possible suicide attempt.
