The California Highway Patrol (CHP) has reported one traffic fatality for Los Angeles County over the Labor Day Weekend. The accident, which happened on Saturday morning, occurred after the driver, an 87-year-old Valencia women, lost control of her vehicle. Her husband was tragically lost in the accident.

Last year’s Labor Day weekend saw three traffic fatalities in Los Angeles County. Statewide, however, saw a dramatic increase in traffic deaths over the holiday weekend, with 21 reported traffic-related fatalities being reported. Only 12 traffic-related deaths were reported last year.

Arrests for driving under the influence (DUI) made by CHP officers were also up, both in Los Angeles County and statewide. 305 drivers were arrested under suspicion of DUI this year, while only 228 drivers were arrested last year. Statewide, 1,521 arrests for DUI were reported, with only 1,417 DUI incidents reported last year.

The Law Offices of Larry H. Parker urges drivers to buckle up and to drive sober, especially on holidays. Every holiday weekend brings increased dangers to the roadways, as there are more people on the highways and some people choose not to behave in a responsible manner and insist on driving while under the influence.
