New crash test data from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) shows three minivans failed to meet expectations in a small overlap crash. The Chrysler Town and Country, Dodge Caravan, and Nissan Quest all received poor ratings from IIHS. The Nissan Quest fared especially poor in the crash tests, which one IIHS official referred to as one of the worst crash test results ever recorded.

The results from the Nissan Quest’s crash test is alarming. According to IIHS, a driver experiencing a 40 miles per hour small overlap crash would be lucky to ever walk again. The corner of the driver’s door was pushed in two feet and the floor and the instrument panel pinned the dummy into the seat, requiring the seat to be removed from the vehicle to free the dummy. A crowbar had to be used to free the dummy’s right foot.

Small overlap crashes are a common form of auto accident. A poor vehicle safety rating for these types of crashes puts drivers at risk. If you or a loved one has been injured in a car accident, contact The Law Offices of Larry H. Parker today at (800) 333-0000 for a free consultation.
