A crash involving a big rig and a pickup truck towing a trailer that killed 1 and seriously injured 3 people caused a shutdown of Interstate 15 in the early evening of Tuesday, July 16. The accident occurred near Cleghorn Road in the Cajon Pass around 6:40 p.m. One of the vehicles came to rest in a ditch near the freeway.

Multiple helicopters landed on the freeway to ferry victims from the scene to local hospitals, causing traffic in both directions of the 15 to come to a standstill. Some drivers took extraordinary measures to escape the gridlock, exiting the freeway via nearby onramps.
