A five-car crash on the 405 South in North Hills killed 1 and briefly closed the interstate in both directions occurred during morning rush hour Friday, November 14th. The crash occurred around 7:35 a.m. near Devonshire Street. Three of the involved vehicles burst into flames.

Many of the details of the crash are still unknown. The fatality occurred in one of the vehicles that caught fire, but all of the other drivers were able to exit their vehicles. The details of the other crash victims’ injuries are unknown. The three vehicles that caught fire came to rest near the center divider. A fourth vehicle was also at the center divider, but a few hundred feet away. A fifth vehicle was on the right shoulder. The fourth and fifth vehicles did not catch fire.

The 405 Freeway was closed in both directions after the crash. The 405 North reopened around 8:10 a.m., as did one lane on the 405 South. Traffic was backed up for miles in both directions.
