10 elementary students were injured when a school bus had to brake hard and swerve to avoid a car attempting to make an illegal turn in Lakeside the afternoon of Tuesday, September 29th. The incident occurred on the ride home after school in the 14800 block of Olde Highway 80 near Flinn Springs County Park.

According to authorities, a car turning right onto Olde Highway 80 cut off the school bus, forcing the bus driver to swerve and brake. The school bus was not equipped with safety belts, and many children slammed their heads into the seat in front of them, causing minor head and neck injuries. 10 injury victims were taken to local hospitals for treatment.

The authorities note that even though no collision occurred, the incident could be treated as a hit and run. It is unknown if the driver of the car that caused the incident is aware the near miss happened.
