A vehicle entered oncoming traffic in Oceanside on the evening of Tuesday, June 16th, causing a chain-reaction crash that claimed the life of a driver. The chain-reaction collision occurred around 6:15 p.m. on North River Road near Stallion Drive.

According to authorities, a woman was driving a 2003 BMW SUV east on North River Road when she entered westbound traffic, crashing head-on into a 2015 Toyota Rav4. The Rav4 spun around and was struck by another westbound Toyota truck. The driver of the BMW, whom had to be cut from her vehicle, did not respond to resuscitation attempts and was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of Rav4, identified as Whitney Sundseth, was taken by helicopter to Scripps Memorial Hospital in nearby La Jolla. The driver of the Toyota truck was not injured.

Authorities continue to investigate the crash. It is currently unknown whether speed, alcohol, or drugs were involved in the incident.
