Which of These Popular Driver Jobs Would Work Best with Your Skills?

With an increase in car accidents each year, there is a real need for qualified, experienced drivers on the road. In fact, there are many driver jobs open. Do any of these appeal to you? To qualify, it is likely you will need a safe driving record. Note that if you were injured in a car accident that was the fault of someone else, this might not count against your record. Just make sure you have talked to a personal injury attorney about any potential compensatory damages you may be entitled to.

Taxi Driver / Uber Driver

Depending on whether you want to work for yourself or an employer, you could choose to be a taxi driver or Uber driver. This can be a full-time or part-time job. Just know that the job is not as simple as driving people around – it is very physically demanding. For instance, you are likely to need to work late hours. You may have to pick up heavy luggage, deal with customers who are intoxicated or otherwise dangerous, and compete with many other drivers.

Package Delivery Driver

You could work for a delivery company such as UPS, FedEx, or the post office. These are very stressful jobs because the work can be physically taxing and is required in all weather and all situations. In order to qualify, you must have a high school diploma, a safe driving record, a good employment history, and a commercial driver’s license. You are likely to also need to pass a drug test.

Bus Driver

If you live in a city with public transit, then it is likely that you will find there are openings for bus drivers. If there is not a robust public transit system in your area, you may find a job driving a school bus. Projections indicate that bus driver positions are going to go up by more than 6% in the next five years. Note that these positions can involve difficult work schedules, ergonomic issues, and other problems.

Container Delivery Driver

These drivers work with semi-trucks to get bulk products where they need to go. These types of CDL drivers are needed not just in California but throughout the country. That said, as other jobs on this list, this type of driving can be risky. Workers are at risk of accidents that can result in serious and life-altering injuries. In fact, trucker drivers are one of the six types of workers most likely to suffer an injury on the job.
