Dog bites are much more common then people expect; 350,000 people are treated in emergency rooms for dog bites every year. That’s nearly 1,000 people every day. Every year, around 850,000 people require medical attention for an estimated 4.5 million dog bites.

A 2nd grader walking to school in San Bernardino last week was attacked by a pit bull in a terrifying scene that was caught on surveillance cameras. The video showed the dog snapping at the 8-year-old girl then biting her arm, face, and legs before a neighbor was able to intervene.

See news footage of the attack here.

The attack lasted for several seconds. The video shows neighbors coming to the girl’s aid. The first neighbor to reach the scene of the dog attack was able to kick the pit bull and chase it off. According to news reports, several dogs off leashes were spotted near the scene. The owner of the pit bull involved in the attack apologized and claimed to have euthanized the dog.

Who is liable for such dog attacks? Dog owners. That’s why it’s imperative for all dog owners to properly maintain and train their dogs.
