Rituxan
The Food and Drug Administration is investigating the link between Rituxan (Rituximab) and progressive multifocal leukoencephalitis (PML), a very serious and often fatal brain infection. Rituxan is a prescription drug used to treat lymphoma, a cancer of the immune system. Rituxan is also indicated for rheumatoid arthritis, but is also used off-label to treat autoimmune anemia, multiple sclerosis, and lupus. Rituxan works by suppressing the immune system, a process associated with the development of PML.
PML is an infection of the brain that may cause neurological problems including dizziness, confusion, speech problems, and vision problems. PML can sometimes be misdiagnosed as dementia or Alzheimer's disease. There is no known cure for the disease, and symptoms will get worse over time.
If you or a loved one has or had developed PML while taking Rituxan, The Law Offices of Larry H. Parker can help.
