Digitek Recall
Actavis Totowa LLC, a US manufacturer division of international generic drug maker Actavis Group has issued a nationwide recall for all lots of Digitek digoxin tablets (all strengths) for oral use. The drugs are also distributed by Mylan Pharmaceuticals Inc. as Bertek and by UDL Laboratories as UDL.
The recall is due to a possible doubling of the approved level of active ingredient in the pills. The double strength tablet can create a risk of digitalis toxicity (digoxin toxicity), particularly in patients with renal failure. Effects of digitalis toxicity include nausea, vomiting, dizziness, low blood pressure, cardiac instability, and bradycardia. In some cases, excessive digitalis intake can result in death. Illnesses and injuries associated with the defective double strength pills have been reported.
Please visit the FDA Website for more information on this recall.
