The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has announced a recall on several models of the Kugel Mesh Patch™ manufactured by Davol, Inc., a subsidiary of C.R. Bard, Inc. On February 1, 2007, the FDA elevated the recall to Class 1 status because the defect could cause serious adverse health consequences, including death. The Composix Kugel Mesh Patch™ was initially FDA approved in 2001. The patch is constructed with a "memory recoil ring". This ring has proven to be the potentially defective component of the patch.
