Fosamax™

Your doctor may have prescribed it to make your bones stronger, but
the drug Fosamax™ may do just to opposite. In fact it may rot your
jaw and some people have completely lost their jaws as a result of
Fosamax™. Victims are calling this reaction: Dead Jaw Syndrome.

Fosamax™ is a bisphosphonate, a class of drugs that includes Actonel,
Aredia, Boniva, Didronel, and Zometa. They are commonly used to treat
osteoporosis and bone loss related to chemotherapy and other disorders.

In some cases people using Fosamax™ have come down with what is being
called "dead jaw" when the jaw fails to heal after minor trauma such
as a tooth extraction.

The resulting osteonecrosis has caused infections, and in many
cases, plastic surgery to restore the disfigurement that resulted
from using Fosamax™. In 2004 the FDA forced Merck, the
manufacturer of Fosamax™, to issue a warning letter about
bisphosphonates and osteonecrosis of the jaw.
