Bausch & Lomb ReNu™

A potentially sight-threatening eye fungus has appeared in the United States with increasing frequency. Some patients have experienced a significant loss of vision and required a corneal transplant due to an infection from Fusarium keratitis. If not treated quickly a Fusarium eye infection could lead to corneal scarring and blindness.

Of the over 100 Fusarium keratitis infections reported to the CDC from June 2005 to March 2006, 28 were contact lens wearers and 26 used Bausch & Lomb's "ReNu" contact lens solution shortly before becoming infected. At least 50 cases have been reported this year prompting an investigation of possible fungal contamination of contact lens solutions.

Bausch & Lomb has suspended shipments of its "ReNu with MoistureLoc" contact lens solution until the investigation is complete.

Signs of infection include (but are not limited to):
    *    Suddenly blurry or fuzzy vision
    *    Redness and irritation that persists long after contact lenses are removed
    *    Pain in and around the eyes
    *    Increased sensitivity to light
    *    Excessive discharge or tears
